In The News: I’m a TIES Travel Ambassador
For the 12 months of 2011, the WHL Group’s Cynthia Ord has been designated a TIES Travel Ambassador. The International Ecotourism Society (TIES) is a non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting the principles of ecotourism. Each year, TIES names 10 people as Travel Ambassadors, people selected to spread the word about tourism as a force for positive change.

The truth is, when I think about how I was able to spend the past year pursuing a masters degree in Tourism and Environmental Economics in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, I get a little jealous of myself. It has been a great formal education process and life experience. I found it by searching far and wide online, then I worked really hard to make it happen. If I can do it, anyone can.

Abstract: This article examines the relationship between tourism and begging street children in
destinations. It looks at one empirical study that has been made on the topic in Madagascar,
and reviews travel guides and online travel information for advice to travelers about how to
address begging and street children. There is a lack of consensus on the
relationship between tourism and begging street children. More research and discussion is due.
